Amber Heard, who plays Mera in the upcoming DC film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has accused her co-star Jason Momoa of showing up drunk on set and dressing up like her ex-husband Johnny Depp, according to court documents obtained by Variety.
The documents, which were released last month as part of the defamation case between Heard and Depp, include notes from Heard’s therapist Dr. Dawn Hughes, who testified on her behalf. The notes read: “Jason said he wanted me fired. Jason drunk — late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.”
Heard and Depp were married from 2015 to 2017 and have been involved in a legal battle since 2018, when Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about being a survivor of domestic abuse. Depp sued her for defamation, claiming that she had falsely accused him of violence and harmed his career. He won the case in May 2022 and received $10 million in damages from Heard.
Heard’s role in the Aquaman sequel was reportedly in jeopardy due to the controversy and the lack of chemistry with Momoa. However, she managed to retain her part after her then-boyfriend Elon Musk intervened and threatened Warner Bros., the parent studio of DC, with legal action.
A spokesperson for DC told Variety that Momoa had “conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” A source who was on set also denied that Momoa was drunk or dressed like Depp, saying that he “has always dressed in that bohemian style.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, directed by James Wan, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2023. It is the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide. The film follows Arthur Curry (Momoa) as he faces a new threat from his nemesis Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and teams up with his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson).
